We were expecting guests from Mexico. They are "anusim" or "morano's" - a people of once Jewish origin who were forced to flee Spain and to convert to Christianity. There was a conference in the Negev about this group of people - as some are trying to bring them back to Israel to the Negev because of Biblical prophesy in the book of Ovadiah, that says the "Sephardim will resettle in the cities of the Negev"
I have had mixed feelings about this subject, not being sure about what I understood/believed from it all.
Josef and his wife have converted to Judaism and made aliyah 3 months ago.
He is a Olympics table tennis coach and a very special man. He shared that he went through a depression when he was coaching in Japan and started to seek "God". He tried many religions but was drawn to the Bible and the Jewish people.
He later was told by a rabbi in Mexico that he should check his roots, that he could have a Jewish past. He did.
What was special about this man is that he is sincere and checks everything that he does. He studied scripture with intensity and has an amazing understanding that is so unlike any religous Jew I have met yet. He sounds like a believer like we are, but he's not. But I believe that he will be!
He also made the decision to homeschool his children and in Mexico it is not the norm. He did it because he believed it is God's design and will that children are raised and taught by the parents and also because as a coach he said you can do a better job one on one, than one teacher with 30 kids. He also researched homeschooling, the statistics, met homeschooling families in order to interview them and see if they were normal etc, BEFORE he made his decision.
THAT to me is admirable, and I really was blessed by his wisdom and heart.
They are keen to settle in the Negev and were so excited to be here. Each year it is a schlep to get Yaron to get the sukkah up, this year was no different and worse as he had been working up North. We were then going camping that night (our family were going to come home to be able to serve the guests breakfast) and we were a bit concerned about leaving this family without a sukkah when they so looked forward to it.
As we walk with the Lord, we have so oftened seen His work unfold and this was one of those moments. As we were about to leave I just threw the suggestion that maybe that they can build the sukkah. They leapt at the idea and within 10 min (Yaron helped with his tools too) there was a sukkah. We gave their kids materials and they were soon happy and colouring away to make the decorations. They were so blessed, but so were we! I had tears in my eyes as I felt in my spirit that the Lord was doing this. It was so sweet, I wanted to leap and dance.
The next day he read to us from his prayer book, the blessing for the day and this morning Yaron read it with them over breakfast.
We had also many moments of sharing, pouring over Scripture and sharing about our faith in Yeshua Messiah!
So by far, this has been the most interesting and exciting guests we have had!
